Wendi Gunter is a self-taught artist living in north-central Idaho. She has loved to draw ever since she was big enough to hold a pencil. Most of her time had been spent using graphite and charcoal, however, in the year 2000 she began using colored pencil. In 2004, while doing a pair of portraits for a family member, a friend persuaded her to do a portrait for her, also. By word of mouth, one portrait led to another and by fall 2006 she had acquired a waiting list. In addtion to commissions, she also does work for the Appaloosa Museum in Moscow, Idaho creating notecards for their giftshop. While game to try just about anything, her favorite subjects are children and horses, the setting rural. Her goal is to capture not just the image of the subject, but a story, to not have a painting by just two-dimesional, but to weave and layer the character, personality, and life of the subject into it. Her goal is not photorealism, but a painting that is believable and makes the viewer look past the drawing and enter into the painting itself. To God be the glory!
